Getting to know
Dr. Mai
Before opening my practice, I worked at several university counseling centers, serving in a variety of roles involving providing psychotherapy, supervision, training, and leadership while holding the position of Clinical Associate Professor. As Clinical Director, I also led initiatives to improve access to mental health care, strengthen system accountability, and expand the scope of services.
As I entered a new season of life, I felt a strong pull to shift my focus fully to clinical work and to create more space for my personal life. Since 2025, I have been providing psychotherapy in private practice, working with individuals and couples from diverse backgrounds , worldviews, and life stages, helping them navigate the challenges and complexities of life, work, academics, family, and relationships, and improve their psychological well-being.
There is a saying: "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." These words resonate deeply with me as I reflect on the intersecting chapters of my personal and professional life. Moving to a new country, leaving home, pursuing graduate school, becoming a psychologist, building a career in higher education, and now having my own private practice - all began with a desire to step into the unfamiliar - to learn, evolve, and help with an open mind and heart and to live with intentionality, gratitude, and integrity.
Outside of work, I love taking long walks with my husband and traveling for food, museums, botanical gardens, and state and national parks.
